Fraser Downs played host to the second leg of the B.C. Breeders Stakes for two-year-old pacers on Thursday (Oct. 17) evening with two $15,000 divisions of the Betty Millbank Memorial for fillies and one $20,000 division of the Robert Millbank Memorial for colts and geldings.
Rod Therres sent out four winners on the card including a win in two of the B.C. Breeders Stakes and one in the Distaff Preferred.
In the $20,000 Robert Millbank Memorial for colts and geldings, Fubar Bundy won his fourth straight race in four career starts with Therres holding the lines.
Fubar Bundy was pedal to the metal in the opening turn, pulling ahead by three-lengths at the quarter in :28.1. While the margin of his lead shortened a bit, Fubar Bundy did not let up and handled the half in :58 and three-quarters in 1:26.2. He kept on going all the way to the wire with a 1-1/4 length victory in 1:54.4. Westcoast Mccoy (Philip Giesbrecht) followed the pocket trip to second while Odins Fury (Glenn White) collected the show finish.
The All Bets Off - Guthrie Hanover colt is owned by Therres, Ralph Therres, Kfc Farms Ltd, and Dairen Edwards. He now pockets $26,000 in his perfect career to date. Fubar Bundy returned $2.10 to win.
Heavens Lil Dragon took the first of the two divisions for the young ladies with a gate-to-wire trip piloted by her trainer Rod Therres. Therres and the Custard The Dragon - Bin N Heaven filly left from the center of the field and took command early, maintaining a two length lead through splits in :28.3, :59.4, and 1:29.2. Dragons Attitude (Serge Masse) gave heavy chase in the stretch, but Heavens Lil Dragon prevailed by a head at the wire in a career best 1:58.2. Crunch N Munch (John Abbott) was third placed second after an interference at the start and Dragons Attitude was second placed third.
Rod Therres, Ralph Therres, Kfc Farms Ltd, and Dairen Edwards co-own the filly as she moved her career tally to 3-2-0 in five starts. She paid $3.80 as the bettors' choice.
Threecurtaincalls and Philip Giesbrecht took the same trip around the track in the second round for fillies on the card. Maintaining a 1-1/2 length advantage over the field through the mile, Threecurtaincalls controlled the clock in :28.4, :59, and 1:28.1. Her greatest challenge came from Machnroll Fantasy (Scott Knight) in the stretch drive, but she was able to fend off the battle and win by a neck in 1:58. Snowdragon (Kelly Hoerdt) completed the show ticket.
J J J Stables owns the Huntsville - Encore Deo filly trained by Jim Marino. She won her first race in her first career appearance at the races. As the favourite in the field of five, she paid $3.20 to win.
The $100,000 two-year-old stakes finals will be held on Oct. 24 at Fraser Downs.
On the undercard, Goodbye Ceia Later returned to the winner's circle for the second time in three starts in the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Preferred Pace under the guidance of Therres with Serge Masse in the bike.
Christopher Lancaster and Velda Olding co-own the Vertical Horizon - Ba Bye Ceia Later mare for her fifth win of the year and 16th career victory. In 85 starts, she has banked $133,334.
Therres recorded four wins on the card with Fubar Bundy, Heavens Lil Dragon, Goodbye Ceia Later, and Outlaw Spiced Rum ($2.50), who was driven to a two length score in 1:54.3 by Masse.
