Dont Spank Me pulled off a mild upset at Pompano Park on Wednesday (October 16) by scoring a decisive win in a lifetime best 1:54 for Bruce Ranger in the Florida Sunshine State Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies.
The daughter of Capital Request, owned by Jean Carter along with trainer Wayne Carter, went right to the front and clocked opening panels of :28.1 and :57.4. She then thwarted the bid of the 3-10 favourite, Tashia, with a :27.3 third panel. From there, Dont Spank Me romped home in :28.3 to seal the deal.
Tashia finished second and Dandee Diamond finished third.
In winning what was her Pompano Park debut this season, Dont Spank Me stopped Tashia’s seven-race win streak.
In a post-race interview, Ranger said, “Wayne (trainer Carter) said the filly is quite handy and can leave if asked. She was completely well within herself the entire mile and beat a very tough filly in Tashia in the process.”
The ultra-consistent Don’t Spank Me now has a 4-3-3 scorecard in 12 starts this year. As second choice in the betting, Dont Spank Me returned $6.40 to win.
