Sheer Brilliance continued his dominance of the top Miracle Mile pacing class with a 1:52.2 triumph in Saturday night’s $13,200 featured 10th race at Vernon Downs

With Claude Huckabone, III, driving Sheer Brilliance ($3.70) flashed to the front from the outside eight position and led through splits of :27.4, :56.3 and 1:24.3 en route to a two-length victory for trainer Jeffrey Long and his ownership partner J. Paul Long. It was the third straight local tally and the seventh season’s score for the five-year-old son of Blissful Hall-High Roller Ash, who increased his career win total to 22 and his all-time bankroll to $238,917.
Huckabone, who is closing in on the coveted 2,000 career-win plateau, also did the steering behind the streaking Saranac Hanover in Saturday’s $4,000 11th event, guiding the four-year-old claiming pacer to his forth straight score and ninth at the meet, making him the winningest standardbred after 78 programs. Brian Connor conditions the brown son of Dragon Again-Swipe Street for owner Brenda N. Jaffe.
Huckabone completed his evening with three tallies and 1,985 lifetime victories.
