Essex County Warden and Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain has stated that the Lakeshore Horse Raceway Association, which he is part of, will be applying for 30 race dates for the 2014 racing season.
The news comes courtesy of a report by The Windsor Star, which explains that the association was very happy with the success of its recent four-date meet at the Leamington Fairgrounds.
“We bet $41,000 this last Sunday. So it was beyond expectations,” Bain was quoted as saying. “We were extremely pleased with the turnout of the crowd, the support from the public and the dollars that were bet.”
Bain stated that the association will be meeting soon to create a proposal which will be submitted in attempt to secure the dates for 2014. “I think we’re gonna probably go back looking for 30 days next year,” Bain was quoted as saying.
Bain stated that the LHRA “would hope to begin in June as opposed to the late fall,” and that he hoped the Lakeshore group will “be granted more dates based on the success that we’ve had.”
