Never a bridesmaid, Astrmowin pulled off a sweep of The Bride To Be Pacing Series at Kawartha Downs on Saturday night with a front-end effort in the $13,600 final for driver James MacDonald and trainer Bruce Goit
.
The top nine point earners from the opening two legs of the series lined up behind the gate on Saturday night for the finale and it was Astrmowin who blasted to the lead from Post 6. The sophomore daughter of Astreos-Waasmowin carved out early fractions of :27.3 and :58.1 before her stablemate, Lyons Lass (Fred Brethour), advanced first up after getting away sixth and applied pressure past three-quarters in 1:27.3.
Refusing to see her record tarnished, Astrmowin dug in and sprinted home in :29-seconds for the victory, establishing a new mark of 1:56.3 in the process. Lyons Lass finished one and a half lengths behind in second while pocket-sitter Lexis Mandy (Brad Rae) finished 10 and three-quarter lengths back in third.
Astrmowin paid $3.90 as the popular choice. With a perfect three-for-three record, she has earned $13,800 for owner Bonnie Goit of Waterford, Ont.
