Arties Ideal shrugged off a third-quarter challenge and sprinted home to complete a wire-to-wire victory in the $14,500 Horses and Geldings Preferred Pace on Thursday, Oct. 15 at Flamboro Downs.
Damian MacLellan placed the stallion on top promptly for favourable early fractions of :28 and :57.2, with Snack Attack (Ed Hensley) flushed first-over out of third nearing the midway point. Snack Attack encroached on the leader as they turned towards the backstretch, forcing a swift third panel from Arties Ideal to put away the attacker past three-quarters in 1:25. Ys Delight (Mark MacDonell), a patient pocket sitter, waited for clearance from the the retreating Snack Attack, then took aim down the lane. Arties Ideal kicked through the stretch, holding Ys Delight a length away as he reached the line in 1:53.1. Snack Attack held third.
The Kyle Fellows-trained Arties Ideal earned his fifth win of the year in 19 starts for owner Hutt Racing Stable of Malvern, Pa. The 10-year-old son of American Ideal-Midnight Art is now 39-for-190 lifetime and has earned $787,630. He paid $10.70 to win.
