Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs issued an announcement via social media late last night (Sunday, Oct. 14) stating that the site will be closed temporarily.
The Ontario Government and the Fraserville racino recently reached a deal to see the five-eighths-mile oval retain a portion of its slot machines (for feedback, click here).
As a report by Global News explains, some employees were surprised to find the doors locked when they showed up for work this morning (Monday, Oct. 15).
Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs’ announcement via social media stated the following:
As of October 14 at 11:59 pm, we are temporarily closing the site due to operational and regulatory requirements that are necessary for the re-opening of the gaming floor.
We look forward to welcoming customers again when we re-open, and we are working hard to ensure that happens as quickly as possible.
We appreciate your patience and understanding; we will be announcing the reopening date very soon.
Kawartha Downs General Manger Orazio Valente told Global News that “There’s been a lot of ambiguity this weekend as to what’s going on. Any timelines of it reopening doesn’t involve us. We are waiting for official word from the proper government agencies, then we will act accordingly.”
The OLG also issued a statement.
“We are working with Kawartha Downs to mitigate the impact of the temporary closure of Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs on employees,” the OLG statement explained. “Kawartha Downs has advised that no employee has been – or will be — laid off as a result of this brief closure. We look forward to the re-launch of Shorelines Slots at Kawartha Downs in approximately two weeks time, and we thank the community for their patience. Approximately 40 food and beverage, administrative staff and managers work at Kawartha Downs.”
Additionally, Shorelines Casino Peterborough is scheduled to officially open today (Monday, Oct. 15) at 5 p.m. For complete information, click here.
