Just one week after having equalled the Leamington Raceway track record for two-year-olds, the Bob McIntosh trainee On The Take was back at it on Sunday (October 15), and he wanted to drop the mark a bit further.
On The Take took to the track for Race 6 on Sunday, which was a conditioned event that was being contested for a purse of $3,800.
Pilot Garrett Rooney lined his charge up into Post 3, and that was the closest that any challenger would get to the duo.
Rooney and the gelded Mach Three freshman were up by three lengths at the :28.3 quarter pole, and had extended their lead to seven by the time they breezed by the half-mile pole in :59.1. The duo had increased their lead to 10 length by the time they whizzed past the three-quarters call in 1:27.4.
On The Take and Rooney were in front by 15 lengths at the head of the lane, and came home with a :30.3 final quarter to stop the clock in 1:58.2. The margin of victory was more than 17 lengths.
The 1:58.2 mile is now the fastest two-year-old mile in the history of Leamington Raceway
On The Take was bred by Robert McIntosh Stables Inc. of Windsor, Ont. and James Walker of Port Perry, Ont.
