Making her first Saskatchewan start, Alberta invader River Lass capped off a productive Friday night for trainer-driver Kelly Hoerdt with a victory in the featured $1,900 Fillies & Mares Open Pace at Marquis Down.

River Lass and Hoerdt followed along in third while 40-1 longshot Weareverigo (Garry Schedlosky) carved out fractions of :27, :57.1 and 1:27.2. As the leader began to fade in the stretch, River Lass kicked into high gear and sprinted home to score in 2:00.1. Her stablemate, Stabilo (Tyler Redwood), finished one and three-quarter lengths behind in second and pocket-sitter Crying Over You (Darryl Mason) was a close third.

Hoerdt shares ownership of the winning filly with Blair Corbeil of Beaumont, Alta. River Lass now boasts a record of 11-4-1 in 19 sophomore starts with victories in a Wild Rose division at Northlands Park, and the ASHA Breeders Stake, Alberta Sires Stakes Alberta Diamond and Bev Sears Classic Sales Stake at Alberta Downs. She has banked $135,236 so far in 2010.

River Lass paid $4.70 for her Friday night victory.

Hoerdt also drove Battle River Storm ($2.60) to victory for trainer Joe O'Brien and won with his pupils Total Rhythm ($2.50) and Prairie Lily champion Multiflora Hanover ($3.60), who notched her third straight victory.
