As many Canadian provinces are opting to jump into the online gaming realm with both feet, Nova Scotia has announced that it will be taking the exact opposite approach

A report by The Chronicle Herald quotes Nova Scotia Premier Darrell Dexter as saying the online gaming isn't "consistent with our goal to try to reduce the harm that is done by gaming," and that a provincially-run online gaming website "is another avenue of gaming, but not one that we’re going to participate in."
The report explains that just a few months ago, Nova Scotia Finance Minister Graham Steele said that he thought the province should get involved in the rush to bring provincially-run legalized gaming websites to the public.
"For those who say that the government shouldn’t be there, I just say I cannot consider it to be responsible to leave problem gamblers to the mercy of illegal unregulated offshore gambling sites, many of which are thought to be fronts for organized crime. Why is that the right answer?" Steele was quoted as saying on CBC Radio this past August.
