George Leager's Slick Tony notched his 12th seasonal win Monday in the featured $17,000 Open Pace at Harrington Raceway in 1:52.
Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, Slick Tony not disappoint his backers. After taking the lead from Allwillworkout near the opening quarter mile in :27.2 for driver Russell Foster, Slick Tony marched to the half-mile in :56 and three-quarters in 1:24.2 as first-over attacker Star Messenger retreated.
When the field of six hit the stretch, Slick Tony maintained a comfortable advantage and was one length ahead at the wire of Allwillworkout as Little Ben gained late for third.
Trained by his owner, Slick Tony is a four-year-old No Spin Zone stallion who has been the scourge of the Open pacing ranks on the Delaware circuit this season, banking nearly $165,000 in 2019, which ranks him among the top 15 in the country for aged pacers. Slick Tony paid $2.20 to win.
Corey Callahan had four wins on the card. Mike Cole had a double.
