Waiting On A Woman grabbed his third spot in Summerside Raceway’s track record book thanks to an impressive victory on Sunday’s matinee card, while Brodie ‘Fifi’ MacPhee lobbied to get his face on the front of a box of Wheaties thanks to a six-win performance.

The $1,800 Open Trot was dominated for the third consecutive week by Waiting On A Woman, who toured the oval in 2:00.1 for driver Brodie MacPhee and trainer Mitch Tierney. The four-year-old son of Northern Bailey-Southwind Faith led the field through panels of :30, 1:00.2 and 1:30.4 before using a :29.2 closing quarter to win by 7-1/4 lengths over Caliban Hanover. Saulsbrook Balance took home the show dough.

Sent off as the 1-5 favourite in the six-horse affair, the gelding shaved two-fifths of a second off the track standard for old trotting geldings. The former record of 2:00.3 was held by Dunmore TKO. Waiting On A Woman, who is owned by Mitch and David Tierney of Cornwall, PE, now holds the distinction of being Summerside’s fastest two-year-old, three-year-old and older trotting gelding.

The record-setting win was one of six trips to victory lane on the 12-race card for teamster Brodie MacPhee, who also clicked with Buck Barker (2:01.1) in Race 3, Im Dreamin N (1:58.3) in Race 6, Elm Grove Fireball (2:00.4) in Race 7, B J Cruiser (1:58.2) in Race 11 and Porthill Alf (2:01.1) in Race 12.

MacPhee, who is closing in on $100,000 in earnings this season, has racked up 55 wins this year and 349 to date. The sulky sitter from Cornwall, PE pushed his lifetime earnings over $622,000 thanks to his big day at the office.
