NJSS Finale On Tap At Freehold

The New Jersey Sire Stakes will close its 2009 racing season Saturday at Freehold Raceway with the $50,000 Green Acres Division championship final for two-year-old pacing colts and geldings.

Three of the eight finalists each won two preliminary legs of the Green Acres Series, with Mighty Art drawing Post 2 for owner-trainer-driver Ted Wing.

Jo Pas Boss, the top point earner of the series with two wins and two second-place finishes in the preliminary legs, drew Post 8 for driver Jeff Gregory, trainer Jim Campbell and the Emposimato Stables.

The second highest point earner in the series, BJ Bequia, drew Post 6 for trainer Ross Croghan, owner Brian Nixon and driver Jim Pantaleano. The colt had two wins and a third in four Green Acres preliminaries.

Drawing Post 5 was Ponda River, a winner of one Green Acres preliminary with a second and a pair of third place finishes in the other races. Hall of Famer Cat Manzi is listed to drive for trainer Chuck Crissman, Jr. and owner Albert Schmucker, Jr.

Another winner of one preliminary leg, AJ Corbelli, drew Post 7 for driver George Brennan, trainer Roland Mallar and the Anatolia Racing Stable.

Rounding out the field is Total Shark from Post 1, Vintage Fenom from Post 3 and Ideal Beach Day from Post 4.
