Super Saturday Set In Alberta

Century Downs will host Alberta's finest Standardbred pacers on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 15) with four $75,000 Super Finals for the Alberta Sires Stakes (ABSS) slated on the 11-race card.

Freshman pacing fillies will begin the quartet of Super Finals in Race 7 with a field of nine going to post. Brandon Campbell trainee Promise Kept, with just one loss this year coming in the $70,000 ASHA Filly Pace, will look to snag the series' largest prize from the pylon post. Campbell will pilot the Custard The Dragon filly against the one who conquered her in the ASHA Filly Pace by 9-3/4 lengths, Cora Cora Cora. Jamie Gray will attempt to pull another blow on the potential favourite from post five.

Campbell has another Super Final contender in the following race, the final for freshman pacing colts and geldings. Virtual Horizon will attempt to build off his win the $70,000 Century Casinos Pace from post three as he contends with developing Kelly Crump colt Tin Can Timmy, who starts from post two in rein to Dave Kelly. The field of nine also includes The Dickens, who scores from post five after winning in ABSS competition in two of his last three starts. J. F. Gagne will drive that one for trainer Donna Sarin.

Nate Sobey's star sophomore pacing filly Divine Art will have to overcome post eight in her Super Final challenge while looking to add a 10th win to her card this year. Sobey will steer the daughter of Outrageous Art in a field which includes another Sobey pupil in Daisy Corvette, who has finished runner-up to Divine Art in the last two ABSS contests. Mike Hennessy will drive the stablemate, starting from post six.

Ernesto Delacruz and Vegas Gambler will battle for the ABSS crown in the final for sophomore pacing colts and geldings. J. F. Gagne trains and will drive Ernesto Delacruz from the rail as he looks to capture the crown off a win in the $55,700 Maverick Final, while Vegas Gambler will compete from post four attempting to rebound from his defeat in the Maverick after having won the $77,470 Ralph Klein Memorial earlier this year. Phil Giesbrecht will drive Vegas Gambler for trainer Rod Starkewski.

Saturday's card also features four $15,000 ABSS consolations for each division of pacing Standardbred. First-race post time is 1:15 p.m. (MDT).
