Brad Grant's millionaire pacing mare Sandbetweenurtoes earned her second straight victory at Mohawk Racetrack on Friday night (October 13) winning the featured $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace.
Richard Moreau trains the six-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Als Girl mare while Doug McNair worked out the winning trip tracking the favourite's cover.
In Friday's featured ninth race, L A Delight (Randy Waples) hustled off the gate from the outside post eight to the take the lead moving into the first turn. After a :26.4 first quarter, 6-5 favourite Wrangler Magic (Louis-Philippe Roy) made her move from third and confronted the leader on the way to the half in :54.4. She went head-to-head with L A Delight through three-quarters in 1:22 while Sandbetweenurtoes moved second-over. As the mares turned for home with L A Delight holding on to the lead over Wrangler Magic, Witch Dali (Jody Jamieson) emerged from the pocket in between the top pair, but Sandbetweenurtoes rallied four-wide and out-finished her foes to score the 1:49.4 victory by half a length. Wrangler Magic ended up second-best, just ahead of Witch Dali, while L A Delight finished two and a quarter lengths back in fourth.
Sent postward as the 5-2 second choice, Sandbetweenurtoes paid $7.60 to win. She equalled her season's mark in her 12th victory this year while the lion's share of the purse pushed her annual income to $243,360.
