Camaes Fellow Helps Filion To Five Wins

Ontario-sired Camaes Fellow romped to a dazzling 1:47.3 career-best victory in the featured $34,000 Preferred Pace, giving Mohawk Racetrack's leading driver Sylvain Filion one of his five wins on the Saturday card.

Filion fired the David Menary trainee to the lead from the outside post six in the 10th race feature and blazed through fractions :26.1, :54.1 and 1:20.2 en route to the three and a half length triumph. Last week's winner and this week's favourite State Treasurer (Chris Christoforou) edged by pocket-sitter Upfront Hoosierboy (Randy Waples) for the runner-up honours.

The 1:47.3 winning time was just one-fifth of a second off the all-age track record co-held by Won The West and A Rocknroll Dance.

Sent postward as the 3-1 third choice, Camaes Fellow paid $8.10 to win.

The five-year-old Mach Three gelding earned his ninth win in 22 starts this year and 20th lifetime while pushing his bankroll over $760,000. Camaes Fellow is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and M1 Stable LLC.

Filion countered a bid for the top spot in the 2013 Mohawk driving standings by five-time Friday winner Scott Zeron by padding his win total with five of his own on Saturday night. Pushing his local win count to 113, Filion now holds a nine-win lead over Zeron.

The Milton, Ont. resident scored his other victories with Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots champion Crosbys Clam Bake ($4.10) for trainer Per Henriksen, Rockys First ($5.40) for Ed Hayter, Twin B Impressive ($5.30) for Richard Moreau, and Bestinthebusiness ($12.60) for Stephen Davies.

Filion, Canada's defending Driver of the Year, is currently the nation's leading money-earning reinsman in 2013.
