A runner-up to Junebugs Baby in the last two Inverness Invitationals, Art I Special upended the heavy favourite this time out to win the $2,650 Dr. Jim Remembrance Pace on Sunday afternoon at Inverness Raceway.
With the inside post advantage, Art I Special and four-time Sunday winner Joseph Campbell established the lead and kept the Greg Sparling-driven Junebugs Baby at bay for the three-quarter length victory in 1:57.2. Macnamarra (Colin Kelly) finished nearly six lengths behind in third.
Redmond Doucet trains the six-year-old Artsplace gelding, who has won eight of his 25 starts this year for local owner Randy Copley.
Sent postward as the 6-1 third choice in the wagering, Art I Special paid $14.50 to win.
