Sir Caviar deftly avoided a breaking horse in front of him, then went on to a facile victory — his third straight — in Wednesday’s $22,500 Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows

.

The drama occurred past the half when Rembrandt Spur, on top after a quarter-pole move, made a sudden break before Sir Caviar in the pocket. Brian Zendt guided Sir Caviar around trouble without gearing down, and the four-year-old SJs Caviar-Sierra Flower K gelding did the rest, scoring in 1:54.1. It was one of three wins on the 15-race card for Zendt.

Caviar Crown was second, three lengths back, while Salutation Hanover rallied for show. Leslie Zendt trains Sir Caviar, who has won 10 of 16 starts this year, and owns with Bill Zendt.
