After putting together a string of runner-up performances in his recent starts at Sudbury Downs, Check Le Look reached the winner's circle on Wednesday night in the
$11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot upsetting the popular Bjs Fancy.
Driven by trainer David Dowling, Check Le Look ($16.80) left from Post 4 and carved out fractions of :28.3, :59.2 and 1:29.2 en route to victory in 2:00. Bjs Fancy (Allan Hohner) finished just a half-length behind in second and longshot Charlie O Charlie (Justin Turcotte) sprinted home from the backfield to show.
In his last start on September 29, the eight-year-old Glory B River-Flower Of Erin gelding was third place fifth. Prior to that outing, he was second in seven consecutive starts. The win was his sixth in 27 seasonal starts and lifted his earnings to $58,636. The career winner of more than $217,000 is owned by David Haney of Waterloo and Lawrence Smith of Elmira, Ont.
