If Only Id Known, a runner-up to the streaking Stash The Cookies in their last two matchups, pulled off the upset in this week's edition of the $12,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace on Friday, Oct. 11 at Century Mile.
Stash The Cookies (Dave Kelly), who last went down to defeat in a late June race at Century Downs also won by If Only Id Known, pressed on from her assigned outside post to make front by the quarter in :27.1. The 9-5 favourite then led the field of eight in single file through a half in :55.3 with Outlaw Sharktastic (Nathan Sobey) and Metaki (Brandon Campbell) following in second and third after their brief appearances on the lead through the opening panel.
Meanwhile, If Only Id Known and driver Phil Giesbrecht stalked in fourth and followed the cover of Metaki through the final turn as Stash The Cookies led past three-quarters in 1:25.3 in search of her fifth straight win. As Metaki closed in on Stash The Cookies in deep stretch, If Only Id Known rallied outside and got by them both to win by a neck in 1:54 flat. Metaki just missed while Stash The Cookies settled for third.
Sent off as the 6-1 fifth choice in the wagering, If Only Id Known returned $14.40 to her backers as she recorded her fifth win of the year from 25 starts. Trained by Chris Lancaster and co-owned by Velda Olding, the six-year-old distaffer is in the midst of a career-best campaign with $87,315 banked in purses. Making her 100th career start, the daughter of Shadow Play and Michelles Fury mare tallied her 21st ilifetime win and lifted her earnings to $264,208.
The win was part of a perfect night (two-for-two) for the Lancaster stable and was one of four on the card for Giesbrecht, Century Mile's meet-leading reinsman.
