Rookies Tussle In DSBF Stakes

Six $20,000 Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund stake events for two-year-old pacers were held Monday at Harrington Raceway, with three divisions each for

colts and fillies.

Badlands Racing and George Teague Jr.’s Three Martinis ($4.40, Montrell Teague) was the fastest elimination winner with a 1:55.2 triumph. The Three Olives colt was also trained by co-owner George Teague.

Legacy Racing of Delaware, Neil Gargiulo and Louie Paglieriani’s Powerful Mist ($2.10, Jim Morand) won the first division in 1:56.3 for trainer Wayne Givens. The Powerful Toy colt improved to 4-for-8 lifetime in his career.

The third division was won by Ben Stafford’s Lucky Land ($3.80, Ben Stafford Jr.) in 1:57.4. The Badlands Hanover gelding set all the fractions for trainer Ben Stafford, who also had a win with Badlands Jenna ($7.40 Ben Stafford Jr.) in one of the filly eliminations. Owned by Ben Stafford and Winbak Farm, ‘Jenna’ earned her fifth win of the season.

Joann Looney-King’s Allie Oakley ($5.20, Tim Tetrick) took the first division for trainer Jim King, Jr. A daughter of Badlands Hanover, she has won two of five career races. Meanwhile Freida Ivory and Kenny Mitchell’s Beach Frenzy ($3.20, George Dennis) won the final division in 1:59.2. The Ivory-trainee is among the first offspring of sire Dream Wave to make it to the races.
