New Rules produced a lifetime-best effort to upset at 10-1 while rising to the upper-level conditioned class in the $33,000 feature trot on Sunday, Oct. 11 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
New Rules and Mr Bluebird (Travis Cullen) left in tandem from posts five and seven, respectively, with the former landing in front first for Doug McNair before Mr Bluebird cleared nearing the quarter in :26.2. New Rules snuck off the cones down the backstretch and circled Mr Bluebird before the half in :55.3, but his leadership was quickly contested by Gaines Hanover (Jody Jamieson), who pressured New Rules to three-quarters in 1:23.1. Gaines Hanover surrendered and tucked in second on the last turn, and New Rules sailed home in front of a chasing Major Velocity (Bob McClure) by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:51.1. What About Elmo (James MacDonald) motored off cover for the show spot.
The Dave Menary-trained New Rules recorded his third win of 2026 from 14 starts for owner Pollack Racing LLC of Venetia, Pa. The six-year-old son of Lookslikeachpndale-Mini Her scored in 1:52.2 at a lower level on Oct. 4 before rising in class for Sunday’s win. He is now 27-for-94 lifetime and has earned $554,242. The win price was $22.
