Dontpokethedragon battled against longshot odds, the favourite, and post eight to win the $11,000 Preferred Pace at Flamboro Downs on Wednesday (Oct. 11) evening.
Travis Cullen and the Jodie Cullen trainee were bestowed with the far outside and 11-1 odds in the feature pace. However, he powered off the gate to take the early lead with a first panel in :27. Favoured Lawless Shadow (Tyler Moore) assumed control before the half in :55.4 and maintained that lead through the three-quarters in 1:24.4. In the lane, Dontpokethedragon tipped out to challenge the leader. After a battle down the stretch and with a photo finish, Dontpokethedragon prevailed by a neck in 1:53.1. Lawless Shadow had to settle for second and Wildcat Rocky (Travis Henry) rounded out the top three.
Dontpokethedragon (Custard The Dragon) is a six-year-old gelding owned by Paul Sanders, J J J Stables and Travis Cullen. He owns six wins this season from 29 starts with $69,790 banked. In his career, Dontpokethedragon has earned $316,490 and has made 32 trips to get his picture taken. He paid $24.20 to win.
