'Oriana' Wins Flamboro Preferred

Rose Run Oriana made her Flamboro Downs debut a winning one with a wire-to-wire romp in the co-featured $11,000 Preferred 2 Trot on Sunday night.

Driver Travis Henry sent the daughter of Trainforthefuture straight to the lead from post four in her first start over the Dundas, Ont. oval and carved out fractions of :28.1, :58.3 and 1:28.1 en route to the three and three-quarter length victory in 1:58.2. Lexis D J closed from last to place and Winkys Pride finished third off a two-hole trip.

Rose Run Oriana has won five races in 17 starts during her five-year-old campaign while banking $37,190 in purse earnings. Thomas Riley trains the bay mare for the Rolling Hills Racing Stables of Uxbridge, Ont. and Dimithri Pieris of Mississauga, Ont.

She was the 2-1 second choice and paid $6 to win. Sim Brown, the 8-5 favourite, only made it up to third in his first over journey before finishing fifth.

Mach Pride and driver Jonathan Drury won the matching Preferred 2 for pacers in 1:54.4. The Carmen Auciello trainee wore down Web Cam, who had led through the first three-quarters of the mile (:26.4, :55.2, 1:24.1), for the half-length victory in the passing lane. Ufdragons Rocket closed off cover for third. Wazzup Wazzup was the 6-5 favourite and finished fourth after a first over attempt from the three-hole down the backside.

The five-year-old son of Mach Three is also a five-time winner this year and has banked $43,010 in 26 starts for owner Michael Virdiramo of Markham, Ont. He paid $5.90 to win as the 9-5 second choice.
