Barrieau Wins Five In Charlottetown

Every year Gilles Barrieau is amongst the top percentage drivers in all of Canada and Thursday evening was a shining example of his prowess at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.

The Saint John, NB reinsman had five wins on the Thursday evening program coupled with three second-place finishes and a single third place finish from 10 drives.

Barrieau kicked the action off winning the Race 2 Lady Slipper eligible two-year-old filly pace for a $2,500 pot with Thebossisagirl in 2:00.1 for trainer Jackie Matheson of Charlottetown.

Finnish Your Way (1:59.4) was a dominant winner in race 4 from the Barrieau Stable then newcomer Summit City Nate (1:59.1) delivered as the favourite for trainer Earl Watts of Hampshire. Cougar Gal (1:59.3) provided an upset in Race 8 for trainer Neil Bambrick of Charlottetown then Barrieau and Matheson reunited to win the featured pace in the finale with Collective Wisdom in 1:58.1.

The five-bagger pushes Barrieau to 83 wins at the capital oval as he trails first-place driver Marc Campbell at 96 victories.

Pineapple Express broke his maiden in the $2,500 O’Brien eligible three-year-old colt pace for non-winners of $3,000 lifetime. William MacKay of Breadalbane trains and drives the son of Articulator as he paced in 2:01.3.
