Rosanne Langille’s Preceptor ($13.00) circled from last to first in the final three-eighths of a 1:58.4 mile to repeat in the featured $1,575 winners-over pacing event on Sunday (October 1) at Truro Raceway.
The four-year-old Vintage Master gelding was last away in the field of seven as Distinctiv Rusty (Ryan Ellis) and former Meadowlands campaigner Giant Slayer (Kirk Parris) duelled through early fractions of :28.2 and :57.4. The pair were engulfed heading to the far side on the second occasion, as odds-on favourite His Boy Elroy (Bernard McCallum) circled to the fore through a :30.2 third quarter—but Preceptor was also in motion from the backfield. Trainer-driver Paul Langille angled Preceptor behind the three-wide cover of Badlandia (Darren Crowe) on approach to the far turn, and the pair continued on to lift down the grandstand side and collar His Boy Elroy by a neck. Third-place finisher Good Friday Three (Robert Laffin) was another 2-3/4 lengths in arrears.
Preceptor's back-to-back top-level wins at Truro give him six on the season in 14 starts.
