Abby Best Wins Erwin Andrew Final

There’s was no stopping Abby Best in the preliminary legs of the Erwin Andrew Memorial Aged Mares Pacing Series, and it was more of the same in Thursday’s $14,434 final at the Charlottetown Driving Park

.

The eight-year-old daughter of Cambest-Armbro Seismic went to the front and didn’t look back en route to posting an eye-catching clocking of 1:54.3 for owner/trainer Angus MacLean of Port Hood, NS.

With Todd Trites at the lines, Abby Best motored to the lead from post five and had the field lined up behind her through fractions of :27.3, :56.4 and 1:26.3. She turned on the jets in the final quarter, sprinting home in 28 seconds en route to the career-best clocking of 1:54.3. Princess Julia was more than a pair of lengths back in second while Allamerican Shaina took home third prize.

The victory helped the mare improve her 2009 record to 14-3-2 in 21 starts, and the lion’s share of the purse lifted this year’s bankroll to $37,721. The 39-time winner has stashed away $80,307 to date.
