Ostinato was regarded by the betting public as the one to beat in Thursday’s $7,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3, and driver Billy Davis Jr. drove her like she was the best.
He put the pedal to the metal right from the word “Go” with Ostinato, and after slicing out fractions of :28.4, :59.4 and 1:30.2 the Jason McGinnis trainee cruised to a one-length triumph over Ground Shaker in 2:01.4 over a track rated ‘good’ with a four-second variant. Taking home third prize was Tigra Seelster.
Sent off as the 2-1 choice, Ostinato notched the 34th win of her career for McGinnis and partner Jeff Wellwood of Toronto, Ontario. The mare is quickly closing in on $300,000 in career earnings.
