Cappelli's Racino Could Become Casino

According to a report by recordonline.com, Louis Cappelli's multi-million-dollar racetrack, racino and entertainment complex in New York State could become a casino.

The article says that a bill to legalize casino gaming in Sullivan County has been co-authored by assemblyman Gary Pretlow, D-Yonkers, chairman of the Assembly's Racing and Wagering Committee. The measure seeks a constitutional change to allow for three casinos in Sullivan to legally offer casino gaming.

The bill is currently in the Racing and Wagering Committee, but it will be a long road if it is to come into effect. The proposal would have to be approved by two legislatures: the assembly and senate in one year, and then again by the next elected assembly and senate. Thus, the earliest the proposal could pass would be 2011.

"If everything goes according to timelines, Cappelli's Entertainment City proposed opening and the gaming bill should come to fruition at approximately the same time," said Thompson supervisor Tony Cellini. "The Town of Thompson would be the first town in the state with a (non-Indian) legalized casino."
