For the second week in a row, the Jim Marino stable dominated the $11,000 Open Pace at Fraser Downs, this time sweeping the Triactor.
Moving into the Open off two consecutive wins, Comes Home First edged out stablemates Read The Proposal and Premium Stock, who had finished 1-2 in last Monday's top class. Marino drove the winner, who returned $10.10 to his backers as the 4-1 third wagering choice. The 'Marino Triactor' paid $121.20.
Comes Home First tracked Read The Proposal (Serge Masse) from the pocket through fractions of :27.3, :58.1 and 1:26.4 while Premium Stock (James Burke) advanced from an early four-hole to their outside. Turning for home, Marino sent Comes Home First into the passing lane and ultimately edged out his other trainees to win by a head in 1:55.1. Illwinifican (Dennis Johnston) and Buddy Weiser (Rod Therres) rounded out the top five, finishing just over one length behind.
The top two finishers are both owned by J J J Stables while Premium Stock races for Cameron Gardner and Barbara Lander. The winner is a six-year-old son of Brandons Cowboy out of Cinderella Cam who has won 17 races lifetime and $252,934 in purses.
