According to a report by The Scranton Times Tribune, 2009 was a very successful year for the Mohegan Sun casino located at Pennsylvania's Pocono Downs

.

The article states that the casino finished the year with a 19 per cent increase in revenue -- the largest hike among Pennsylvania's six casinos that were open the past two years.

The numbers were released Wednesday, January 6 by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.

The Mohegan Sun's Pocono Downs facility saw wagers increase from $2.13 billion in 2008 to $2.72 billion in 2009. Payouts increased from nearly $1.94 billion to $2.47 billion and gross terminal revenue rose from about $185.58 million to $220.8 million.

Revenues increased 5.73 per cent from nearly $15.7 million in December 2008 to $16.6 million to December 2009.

"Overall, we're pleased, but it's still a challenging environment. Last year, the economy fell off the cliff in the fall and everyone was impacted a lot. Last year was very challenging and we showed growth overall," Mohegan Sun president and CEO Robert Soper was quoted as saying.
