Garden Gate Ll sat third for most of the mile before picking up cover down the backstretch and rallying three-wide around the final turn en route to victory in 1:54.4 over the sloppy track in the featured $12,500 Open Pace. Pocket-sitter Nobody Can (Jim Marino) was second off a pocket-trip while Stop Calling (John Hudon) finished third after carving out the race fractions of :28, :57.3, and 1:25.4.
Garden Gate Ll was claimed by Donald Young of Surrey, B.C. for $15,000 on Dec. 11. The six-year-old Lotta Soul-Waitingandwatching gelding, who was part of a training triple for McKellar last time out, recorded his 11th career win while bumping his bankroll to $90,654.
The pacer is now four-for-four while racing under McKellar's care as he also won a Nov. 12 start for the Langley horseman.
Garden Gate Ll paid $8.80 to win.
