Shepherd On Big Win, Jitters

Patrick Shepherd, the younger brother of pilot Robert Shepherd, has commented on his first career victories, which came on new year's day at the

Charlottetown Driving Park.

The first win for 18-year-old Shepherd came aboard Joshs Deal for owner/trainer Nick MacGillivray.

“It was awesome. The best feeling I ever had," he was quoted as saying in an article by Nick Oakes in The Guardian.

In the article, Patrick explained that Robert called him afterward to both congratulate him and get some good-natured ribbing in as well.

While commenting on some of his earlier drives -- which took place in Ontario at Georgian Downs on December 21 -- Patrick explained that he definitely had some jitters on the track.

“I was going behind the gate and looked over at (drivers) Aaron Byron and Jason Brewer and asked them if the judges would fine me for throwing up on the racetrack,’’ Patrick conveyed with a chuckle. “Then we got into the race and I was fine. It was mostly just post parade then the gate.’’
