Idol endured a demanding first quarter and went on to capture Friday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Preferred Handicap Pace at The Meadows
.
As a four-year-old last year, Idol scored in 1:50, equaling the fastest mile ever by a distaff pacer at The Meadows. On Friday, she added a Murphy Blind left and flashed mid-season form, jetting to the lead for Brett Miller despite a parked-out opening panel. She prevailed in 1:53.4, a neck better than The Assassinator, who raced well first over. Sadies Place was a ground-saving third.
Jim Pollock, Jr. trains Idol, a daughter of Sharky Spur-Beam Of Joy who has won 13 of 42 career starts, for owner-breeder Stephen Richard of Leominster, Massachusetts.
