Speed Away wired the field in the $27,397 Winners Over/Select Trot at Bally’s Dover on Tuesday, Jan. 6.

He lived up to his name and provided the early speed, charging through the opening quarter in :28.1 with Last Glow (Jack Parker Jr.) accepting the pocket trip. Speed Away, the 6-5 favourite, led a single-file field through the half in :57.3 for Corey Callahan and accelerated to three-quarters in 1:26.2 as Arrowhead Hanover (Tony Morgan) maneuvered off the pylons and trotted first-over into the fog midway up the backstretch. Speed Away led by a length into the lane, and he held off the steady challenge by Arrowhead Hanover to win by a neck in 1:55.1. Last Glow finished third.

Speed Away, trained by Nick Callahan, scored his 25th lifetime win in his 100th start. The eight-year-old son of Father Patrick-All The Time is owned by Breakaway Racing and Yorwollahan Racing Team. He paid $4.60 for the victory.

“We were confident going into the race," Nick Callahan said after the win. “Corey did the right thing racing in front”.

The Wednesday feature at Dover is the $25,000 USD Fillies and Mares Open Handicap Pace. Factory Girl will aim to repeat from post six.
