Whata Donato surged late in the Lightning Lane to capture Tuesday’s $22,500 Filly & Mare Winners Over $10,000 Life/Preferred Handicap Trot at The Meadows.
Whata Donato surrendered the early lead to Express Justice and, even in mid-stretch, appeared destined for second best. But she responded to the urging of trainer/driver Doug Snyder and outkicked Express Justice, prevailing by a neck in 1:57.1 on a ‘good’ surface. The first-over E R Ellie was third.
Frank Poerio, Jr. campaigns Whata Donato, a five-year-old daughter of Donato Hanover-Donven Promise who extended her career bankroll to $187,391.
Trainer Ron Burke enjoyed a four-bagger on the 15-race card, with Dave Palone aboard for three of those victories.
