After concluding the 2011 season with a pair of close second-place finishes in Woodbine Racetrack's $42,000 Fillies & Mares Open Pace, Rebeka Bayama found herself back on top in her 2012 debut on Friday evening.

Rebeka Bayama, who had put together a five-race win streak in the top class near the end of 2011, settled into third from Post 2 during a :27-second opening quarter before regular reinsman Sylvain Filion sent the five-year-old mare to command ahead of Voelz Hanover (Mario Baillargeon) down the backstretch. She reached the half in :56 and proceeded to three-quarters in 1:24.1 before drawing clear to score the 1:51 triumph. Voelz Hanover finished two and a half lengths behind in second while Bullet Point (Keith Oliver) followed four and a half lengths back in third. Didrickson (Randy Waples) and Blissful Smile (Scott Zeron) advanced on the outside to finish fourth and fifth.

Rebeka Bayama paid $2.60 to win as 1-5 fan favourite. Justin Filion trains the homebred Leader Bayama-Joyce Bayama mare for Bayama Farms Inc. of Saint-Andre-D'Argenteuil, Que. Her Friday night victory improved her lifetime record to 17-6-2 in 30 starts and lifted her earnings to $312,928.
