After finishing fourth and failing to advance to the $60,000 Autumn Stakes final two starts ago, trainer/owner/breeder Dave Drew was pleased to see his star pacer Web Cam return to the winner’s circle last week
The four-year-old son of Astreos, who scored a wire-to-wire victory in 1:53.1 for driver Randy Waples on December 27, will headline one of two $20,000 Snowshoe Stakes eliminations taking place tomorrow night at Woodbine Racetrack.
After going 4-3-1 from 15 starts last year and earnings of $52,000, Drew has been pleased with Web Cam’s performance up to this point.
“I have been very pleased with him,” said Drew. “Early in his career he needed to learn how to race, but recently I turned the lines over to Randy Waples and he has done a tremendous job with him.
“He trained lightly this week and seems to be on his game,” Drew added. “He’s not an overly big horse but just a nice size. He’s a beautiful horse to look at just like his mother Ruby Cam.”
Drew, a resident of St. Catherines, Ontario, also believes that his pupil will get better with age.
“I think he will progress nicely as the season goes on. I believe he will get better with age and I think quite highly of him,” Drew added. “You never know how good they are going to be, but so far he is on the right track to be a very useful racehorse.”
Drew also noted that Web Cam is also eligible to the Cam Fella Stakes beginning on March 5.
