Pat Hunt pupil Lilys Lass, the 9-5 co-favourite, circled to the lead and held control to the beam to take the $18,000 featured trot at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Thursday night (Jan. 5).
Driver Tyler Jones circled Lilys Lass to the point past a :28.1 first quarter and coasted past a :58.3 half. Muscle Up The Gold motored uncovered along the rim to press the leader past three-quarters in 1:27.3 but Lilys Lass spun for home repelling that challenge. However, Shes Beer League launched from third over in the stretch and mounted a furious bid for the lead late. Though the line came in time for Lilys Lass, who held a neck in front in 1:57.1 with Brash Lady another length behind in third and R Hot Toddy taking fourth.
Hunt co-owns Lilys Lass, a four-year-old Angus Hall mare, with Goldfinger Stables. She won her third race from 24 starts and has now earned $93,489. She paid $5.80 to win.
