The Horners collected another victory in the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace as their five-year-old mare The Joy Luck Club strolled to a 1:56.3 win as the 1-2 favourite.
Driver Mike Horner tipped the Mark Horner trainee off the rail heading to a :28.1 opening quarter and cleared to the lead before a :57.3 half. Phoos Girl, yielding for the pocket, drafted from second as Dreamfair Eternity made a mild bid first over heading to a 1:27.3 third quarter. The Joy Luck Club continued her speed into the stretch to finish a length and three quarters better than Phoos Girl while Outlaw Imahotvixen finished six lengths back in third.
Owned by Mark Horner, R A W Equine Inc. and Gregg McNair, The Joy Luck Club won her 20th race from 59 starts, earning $433,737. The Camluck mare paid $3.00 to win.
Nomatterwhen pressed first over through a slow tempo and prevailed as the favourite in 1:58.1 to take the $8,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 3 Pace.
Machs Echo took the front and paced to the first quarter in :28.3 while driver Robert Shepherd sat fourth. He angled the Patrick Shepherd trainee first over heading into a :59.2 half and inched towards the pacesetter as the backfield stacked behind the leaders heading to three-quarters.
Nomatterwhen slid to a head advantage by three-quarters in 1:29.1. Howmacfiesty surged three wide into second while Machs Echo began to falter towards the inside. Nomatterwhen maintained control through the lane to win by a length while Choose My Jet, catching cover second over, took place in a photo with Play With Passion rallying wide for third.
Winning her 37th race from 158 starts, Nomatterwhen has now earned $176,428. Gary Volpe owns the eight-year-old No Pan Intended mare and paid $6.50 to win.
