Taking full advantage of a pocket trip, Poseidon Seelster started his 2025 in style by capturing the $36,000 Preferred Pace, which highlighted the 11-race card at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, Jan. 4.
Leaving from post seven with Tyler Moore in the bike, Poseidon Seelster quickly made the lead off the gate, relinquishing control to 9-5 favourite Whatchulookin At (Trevor Henry), who drove on to lead to the quarter in :27.4. Whatchulookin At remained in charge at the half in :56.2 before Poseidon Seelster began to edge off the Henry helmet from the pocket at three-quarters in 1:24.1.
At the top of the stretch, Poseidon Seelster quickly got the better of Whatchulookin At, taking a commanding lead midway through the lane. Pacing home in :28.1, Poseidon Seelster stormed to a two-length victory in 1:52.3 over Pacino Hanover (Travis Cullen). Whatchulookin At held for the show position.
Trained by Donald Lindsey, Poseidon Seelster earned the 20th victory of his career. Lindsey co-owns the eight-year-old gelded son of Sunshine Beach-Porsche Seelster along with Paul Kleinpaste, William Alempijevic and Garth Bechtel. The career earner of $773,890 returned $12.80 to his backers at the betting windows.
