Making his first start of the New Year on Saturday night, Kelly Sheppard steered his own trotter Kdazzle to victory in the seventh race at Flamboro Downs and reached a special career milestone in the process.
Sheppard sent favourite Kdazzle ($4.50) on the move near the half and advanced from fourth into the pocket spot behind the pacesetting Empire Strikesback. When the leader broke stride around the final turn, Kdazzle went on to win in 2:04.2 over the sloppy track by two and a half lengths with Audrey Pearl following in second.
Sheppard's victory aboard Kdazzle was his 2,000th driving win. The Dundas, Ont. horseman trains and co-owns the five-year-old homebred gelding as part of the Sea Of Green Inc. stable.
Lifetime, Sheppard has driven winners of over $10 million in purses. He's also won 721 races as a trainer and his stable has earned in excess of $5.2 million.
