The win streak is now three in a row and counting for the Barry Bird-trained R U Talkin, who savoured his latest victory in a $16,000 conditioned event Thursday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Sent off as the even-money favourite in the seven-horse affair, R U Talkin got away last for teamster Bob McClure before kicking it into overdrive late en route to posting the narrow decision.
Somehowsomeday carved out fractions of :29.2, :59.1 and 1:28 with R U Talkin still positioned at the back of the bus, but things took a drastic turn in the final quarter of the contest. R U Talkin commenced his rally on the way to the three-quarter pole and then used a :27.3 closing kick to win by a neck over Leader Tonight in 1:57. L Weather B was beaten that same neck margin while finishing third.
Bird shares ownership on the three-year-old son of Well Said-RU In The Game with his wife, Debbie, and Gerrie Tucker. It’s now three wins in four career tries for the winner of $23,700.
