After having his win streak crushed two weeks ago, Rod Hennessy trainee Shark Week returned to the winner’s circle for the $13,500 Preferred Pace on Saturday night (Jan. 28) at Century Mile.

Sent off as the odds-on choice, Shark Week shot to the lead and cleared before a :28 first quarter. Under no pressure through a :59.4 half, Shark Week faced a challenge from pocket-popping Samba Beat to three-quarters in 1:30.1 but repelled that foe with ease in progress to a two-length win in 1:57.1. Outlaw Gunsablazin overtook second from Samba Beat while Whiplash Smile finished fourth.

Rod Hennessy co-owns Shark Week, a five-year-old stallion by Vertical Horizon, with Lorne Duffield. He won his 22nd race from 53 starts, has now earned $214,605 and paid $3.50 to win.

Electric Amadeus vaulted from the back to claim her fifth win in a row and take the $10,500 Fillies and Mares Preferred 2 Pace earlier in the card.

Driver Thomas Miller floated Electric Amadeus to race fifth in the field of six while Mrs Suhwiggins carved fractions of :28.2, :59.1 and 1:30. The field livened rounding the bottom turn as Mrs Suhwiggins paced for home. Cheese Whiz gained first over while Electric Amadeus emerged from third over with the most momentum and zipped by her peers to post a length win in 1:59.1. Cheese Whiz finished second with Gold Onthehorizon closing from last for third and Shoot The Whiskey taking fourth.

Brinsley Brooking Lutz trains and co-owns Electric Amadeus with Harvey Jaeger. The seven-year-old Rockin Amadeus mare won her 12th race from 40 starts and has now earned $49,930. She paid $4.80 to win.
