Believe This Bob made everyone a believer after a 1:51.1 victory in Thursday’s $25,000 Delaware Special at a snow-covered Dover Downs.
With Ross Wolfenden in the bike, Believe This Bob won the $25,000 feature for the third time this meet. It was his second triumph in the last four starts. The altered son of Delaware-sire Beach Romeo-Believe This Gal, trained by Jason Skinner for owner Mary Ann Larrimore, closed along the passing lane to overtake Dont Ya Know, who had led from the start and fought off a strong Papa Ray until the final strides. Mustang Art was third.
The win was the 25th in his 100 career starts for Believe This Bob, who was sent off at odds of 5-1. The pacer has earned purses of $35,000 already in 2015 and $271,645 lifetime.
In the $16,000 Open Pace, Contraband Hanover was for real in a 1:52.2 triumph for driver Corey Callahan. Tom Lazzaro owns the Somebeachsomewhere-Castaway gelding, trained by Dylan Davis, who posted the second victory of his last three races. Keystone Real Deal and Leyden were second and third, respectively.
