’The Grey’ Hangs On By A Head

On Friday, January 28 at Buffalo Raceway, The Grey Filly, a five-year-old roan Northern Luck mare, won the $10,000 Filly and Mares Open Pace in 1:58.

Driven by trainer, Ron Beback, Jr., The Grey Filly started from Post 4 and made the lead just past the quarter pole (:29.2). She went on to click off the opening half-mile timer in :58.3 and stopped the three-quarters clock in 1:28.4. After a good stretch battle, The Grey Filly prevailed by a head.

Artistry In Rhythm (driven by Ken Holliday) finished in second and Mud Pie Hanover (Kevin Cummings) finished third.

“She’s (The Grey Filly) about a week away from being in top form,” said Beback. “The front-end trip was good, but I was worried about Kenny’s horse (Artistry In Rhythm) because when she gets fit, she’s going to be tough to beat.”

Racing will resume on Saturday January 29, with first post scheduled for 6:40 pm.
