The wins kept rolling for Marc Campbell with a Saturday (Jan. 28) afternoon six-pack at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The Orwell, P.E.I. driver won over half of the 11-dash program at Red Shores to give him 16 wins so far in 2023 from just 30 drives. This is the beginning of the 14th straight season that Campbell has led the driving colony in Charlottetown.
Campbell teamed up with Premier Joy A in race two for the claiming gelding’s sixth straight victory, this time in 1:56.3 for trainer Colin Johnson. Campbell and Johnson came right back to win in race three with Truckem in 2:02.1 then The Lady Sheriff was the best in race four in 2:00.4 for trainer-driver Campbell, who also scored from his own barn with Plain Jane (1:59) in race six. First Glance made every call a winning one in race eight in 1:58.1 for driver Campbell and trainer Jennifer Doyle then Ill Tell Me Ma completed the six-win day in race nine in 2:00.2 for a training triple for Johnson.
Middleton Terror captured the $3,300 Preferred Pace, in race 10, in line to trainer David Dowling for owners Kingsley Walsh of Albany, P.E.I., and Frank Balcom of Amherst, N.S. It was the third straight win for the four-year-old son of Stonebridge Terror.
Blood Money (driven by Campbell) was sent to the front in the top class through splits of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:28.1 with Middleton Terror sitting second. The race came down to the final quarter as the backfield tried their luck on the outside but a tripped out Middleton Terror came charging at the wire to win by 1-1/2 lengths in 1:57.4. Stash It Away (Gilles Barrieau) was second ahead of Mantario (Jason Hughes).
Live harness racing continues with the final card of the Winter Meet on Feb. 4 with a 12:30 p.m. opening post time.
