Less than 48 hours removed from picking up her second consecutive O’Brien Award as Canada’s Older Trotting Mare of the Year, Frenchfrysnvinegar turned in a front-stepping score in Monday’s $34,000 Preferred Trot at Woodbine Racetrack.

Frenchfrysnvinegar shot to the top from Post 6 for driver Jody Jamieson who had her on the lead through intervals of :27.1, :56.4 and 1:26. The pocket-sitting Watkins tipped out to challenge Frenchfrysnvinegar in the lane, but she rebuffed his challenge by trotting home in a :29-second clip. She prevailed by a neck over Watkins, with Star Ruffnready third best in the six-horse tilt.

Jeff Gillis trains the eight-year-old daughter of Angus Hall-Gugus for owner David Smith of Rockwood, ON. It was the first win of the year for Smith’s homebred, who is now a 31-time winner in her career. The lion’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings to $1,064,707.
