Brad Forward, annually one of Western Fair Raceway’s leading drivers, will make his first 2010 appearance at the London half-mile racetrack today
.
The Woodstock area horseman was honoured this past Saturday at the Standardbred Breeders of Ontario Association’s annual awards banquet as the leading driver in the Ontario Sires Stakes program for 2009. This Saturday night he’s a nominee along with Jody Jamieson for the O’Brien Award as Canada’s Driver of the Year for 2009.
Forward, who was Canada’s representative to the World Driving Championships last year in Norway, is down to drive six horses today at Western Fair. His final drive of the day, in Race 11, is with an eight-year-old trotter that is making his first-ever start at London in his 147th lifetime start.
S F Super Size, a son of Rompaway Butch, was recently claimed at Windsor where Forward drove him to victory on January 20.
Forward took a few weeks off recently to nurse a sore arm, and returned to action at Windsor Raceway last week. The native of Newfoundland has won 3,641 races and over $22 million in purses thus far in his career. He was the leading driver in terms of money won at Western Fair last year.
