Littlebitaclass disappointed as the favourite in last week’s second-leg assignment in the Snowshoe Series, but he was anything but disappointing when the big money was on the line in Monday evening’s final at Woodbine Racetrack.
Scott Zeron was recruited to drive Littlebitaclass, and he made the most of the catch-driving opportunity with the Dave Menary pupil who staved off late pressure to win in 1:54.3 over a track rated ‘Fast’ with a two-second allowance.
Zeron got away third with Littlebitaclass while Zark fired to the front and threw down first-half fractions of :27.3 and :55.4. Zark was still in command to the three-quarter pole in 1:23.3, but Littlebitaclass was hot on his heels after dropping into the two-hole after a brief first-over bid in the backstretch. Zeron angled his charge back to the outside coming off the turn and Littlebitaclass used a :30.3 closing panel to win by a neck over race favourite KG Dragonator in 1:54.3. Ontario Success, who was undefeated in the preliminary legs, came on strong to finish third.
Sent off at odds of 5-1, Littlebitaclass improved his overall record to 7-1-0 from 10 starts while pushing his lifetime earnings to $44,475 with the win. He is owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC, Weaver Bruscemi LLC and Howard Taylor.
Monday’s program also featured a $34,000 Preferred Trot, and Hldontghttoyurdrms showed no mercy to the five foes he faced. Jonathan Drury hustled the five-year-old son of Muscles Yankee-Sweet Gabriella to the lead from Post 6 and successfully sliced out splits of :28.3, :57 and 1:24.2 before stepping home in a :30-second clip to win by 5-1/2 lengths over Watkins in 1:54.2. Catch The Dream, who was sent off as the even-money favourite, had to settle for third.
Corey Johnson trains the gelding, who won for the 11th time in his career, for owners Frank Spagnolo, Frank Schimizzi and Saverio Spagnolo. The $17,000 payday bumped his bankroll to $136,615.
